Review: The Academy Series by Tessa Bailey

Title: Disorderly Conduct
Series: The Academy Book 1
Author: Tessa Bailey
Date Released: Aug 29, 2017

Synopsis:

You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone…

Police academy cadet Charlie Burns can’t believe his luck when the gorgeous blonde he meets in a bar murmurs those magic words: “Nothing serious, ’kay?” Mind-blowing, no-strings sex with Ever Carmichael—it’s the holy grail of hookups for a guy who’s too busy following in his law enforcement family’s footsteps to think about getting serious. Charlie’s all about casual…that is, until Ever calls it quits and his world tilts on its axis.

Ever knows that when you control the relationship game, you can’t get played. But for the first time, she wants more than short-term satisfaction. Step one: end her fling with commitment-phobic Charlie. Step two: sacrifice herself to the ruthless NYC dating scene. Yet everywhere she turns, there’s Charlie, being his ridiculously charming self. No online match or blind date compares to the criminally hot cop-in-training, but they’re over. Aren’t they?

If love is a four-letter-word, why does the idea of Ever seeing someone else tie Charlie up in knots?  Now he’s desperate to win her back…and a little date sabotage never hurt anyone, right?

 REVIEW

Disorderly Conduct was another fun, dirty read by Tessa Bailey.  Charlie and Ever's story quickly sucked me in with its fun plot line and unique spin on the typical romance.

What happens when what should be a casual, no strings mutual benefits relationship turns out to be something so much more? A wild ride to love that's what!

Charlie has the perfect arrangement with Ever -- so perfect that he doesn't see that it's become so much more than the arrangement he thought it was, but suddenly Ever's calling an end to things and Charlie's not handling it so well.

Ever thought she knew the way her life would be, she's followed the rules she's been taught and done her best to stay committment free. Then her mom pops back into her life and urges her to change her ways and find a man to settle down with - someone she can love and be loved by and in wanting to find a connection with her mom - Ever decides to give it a try; but first she's gotta cut off her no strings fling with Charlie.

If only things were so simple and smooth for these two.  I loved watching as they figured out that they'd found something special in each other all along. As Charlie fights for Ever to see in him what she's looking for - I fell in love with the man.

Tessa Bailey never fails to deliver a compelling read with characters that will tug on your heart and having you feeling everything .

Title: Indecent Exposure
Series: The Academy Book 2
Author: Tessa Bailey
Date Released: Jan 30, 2018

Synopsis:

Is there a problem, Officer?

Jack Garrett isn’t a police officer yet, but there’s already an emergency. His new firearms instructor—the one who just dropped every jaw in the academy gym—is the same sexy Irish stranger Jack locked lips with last night. The Olympic gold medalist and expert markswoman is now officially off-limits, but Jack’s never cared much for rules . . .

Katie McCoy’s been cooped up in a shooting range for too long. A wild love affair is just what she needs to let loose, though she never imagined it would be with her smokin’ hot trainee. She cannot get involved with Jack—but a quick fling? Perfect. Falling hard for a charismatic recruit with an equal amount of sex appeal and secrets? Bloody stupid.

Jack’s charmed the pants off plenty of women (literally), yet few have ever looked beyond his perfect surface. Until Katie. He’ll do anything to keep her in his life . . . except tell her about his past. But a tiny lie of omission never hurt anyone, right?

REVIEW

Indecent Exposure was a wonderful addition to Tessa's Academy series, and in it we get Jack's story.  I was super excited for Jack's story because from what little we gathered about him in book one, I knew there was a whole lot more to the guy and I couldn't wait to see how Tessa would spin it.

Indecent Exposure has elements of forbidden romance - which always adds a fun angle to a romance novel, throw in a former Olympic medalist and an almost officer and you've got a few other little issues to work through.

Katie was such a fun heroine, she's tough, sassy, but she's also got real heart.  She is a good girl  usually, but she wants to use this american adventure to walk a little on the wild side - nothing too outrageous though.  But she doesn't expect to be drawn towards Jack.

Jack's got his own hang ups from his past, he recognizes in himself that he doesn't really have healthy sexual relationships - but something about Katie is different.  Jack is also having confusion about his decision to join the academy and his reasons for doing so.  I loved that there was a real hidden depth to him - I had expected it, but he was even better than I imagined.

I've enjoyed this series a lot, because of the relationships between Jack, Charlie, and Danika, and watching as their own personal lives expand when they discover the one meant for them.  Because of this I'm so anxious for the next book in the series.

If you want to read a book full of steam, romance, and just the right amount of angst and drama - pick up Indecent Exposure today and expose yourself to the pleasure of Tessa Bailey's officers and the women they can't stay away from.

Title: Disturbing His Peace
Series: The Academy Book 3
Author: Tessa Bailey
Date Released: April 24, 2018

Synopsis:

She’s got probable cause to make her move . . .

Danika Silva can’t stand Lt. Greer Burns. Her roommate’s older brother may be sexy as hell, but he’s also a cold, unfeeling robot. She just wants to graduate and forget about her scowling superior. But when a dangerous mistake lands Danika on probation—under Greer’s watch—she’s forced to interact with the big, hulking jerk. Call him daily to check in? Done. Ride shotgun in his cruiser every night? Done. Try not to climb into his giant, muscular lap and kiss him? Umm…

Greer doesn’t let anything—or anyone—distract him from the job. Except lately, all he can think about is Danika. He’s wanted the beautiful, cocky recruit since the moment he saw her. But she’s reckless and unpredictable, and Greer is painfully aware of what can happen when an officer doesn’t follow the rules. Probation seemed like a good idea, but now Danika’s scent is in his car and he’s replayed her voicemails twenty times. Christ, he’s a goner.

Danika’s melting Greer’s stone-cold exterior one ride-along at a time. Being together could have serious consequences… but breaking a few rules never hurt anybody, right?

REVIEW

Disturbing His Peace is the third and final book in The Academy series, and I feel like we've been building up to it from the first book.  Greer and Danika's story has been brewing between sexual tension, animosity, and deep chemistry for pages and pages and now that we've hit their story - it's about to explode - in all the good ways that is.

They say there's a fine line between love and hate, and they are right, but sometimes we use hate to cover up our real feelings - and that's the case between these two.  Their animosity and hatred are supposed to hide their attraction - but the chemistry is so strong that everyone else can see there's more brewing between them.  But there's more reasons for them to stay away from each other as well - a touch of the forbidden - to be together would be breaking rules. But sometimes a little rule breaking is called for.

I love the banter between Greer and Danika - whether they are in a group setting at the academy or alone - the tension can be felt in each of their words and looks to each other.  When things finally come to a head - I wanted to scream it's about time - but also I understand why it was so hard for them to get there too.

I loved watching as these two gave up the fight against their feelings and how those around them were involved too.  Danika played her role in both Charlie and Jack's books, so it was fun to watch them play theirs in hers.  There's such a connection between the three that adds that extra level of family to the books.

Tessa Bailey is a master at luring you in to a couple's story, at delivering just the right amount of edge, sexual tension, and heat and melding it all together into a book that keeps you hooked.  I'm sad to see this series end, but look forward to what the author delivers in future works.
