About THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY:

Jamie Kingston has been Brynn Chandler's best friend since middle school. Only once was their friendship tested—when Brynn gave Jamie a single kiss. Since then, they've had an unspoken agreement never to cross that line again, and she’s ready to let go of the past and move on. But Jamie has loved Brynn for as long as he can remember, and now that he's ready to tell her, she has her sights set on someone else. Knowing this is his last chance, he asks Brynn to go on a two-week road trip. But their time alone brings old hurts to the surface, and Brynn has to decide if the one that got away lies at the end of the journey or if he's been by her side all along.

REVIEW

As always, I was excited to hear that AJ Pine had a new series coming out, being a fan of her past works, I knew I had to dive in and then I read the synopsis - friends to lovers - CHECK.  Must read.

AJ Pine delivers a stunning friends to lovers tale with The One that Got Away. Jamie and Brynn have been best friends since forever, though feelings haven't always been strictly friendship, an incident just before SR year was over could have been the start to more for the pair, but then something made Jamie put a halt to it, because he didn't want to risk losing their friendship.

While things continued for years with thier friendship, Jamie never lost his feelings for Brynn, but he also never told them to her. Now ten years later, he's agreed to take her on a road trip; to meet another man.  But Jamie has a plan, Can he make up for the past and show Brynn what could be or will she always be the one that got away.

Brynn's decided that she's going to go after something she wants, or think she wants, now that she's getting a second chance. Ten years ago, on the cusp of graduation, Brynn couldn't wait to go to a party and finally get a kiss from her boy-crush, but  that didn't happen.  She's not letting anything stop her now that its ten years later and reunion time, she intends to see those plans through. But again it doesn't go as it should and Brynn's left deciding if she gives up on that or if she makes her way to California to try again.

The One that Got Away is a sweet, often comical romantic tale. The closeness between Brynn and Jamie is easy to see from page one, their unique friendship that has become so much more even when they don't notice it was a great foundation.  Their journey to realizing what could really be, to finally calling it like it is made me swoon, laugh, and occasionally want to crack a head or two. *wink*  I love that this road trip is what essentially will make or break this couple, either they will figure out what the other truly means to them, OR it will end in a broken hearted mess.

AJ Pine has introduced us to a fresh set of characters in the Kingston Ale House series, they are funny, and pull you in, curious to know what is to come for them.  Like the If Only series, this set of friends, these characters who are a family, even if not all by blood, pull you in and keep you interested.  I can't wait to see the antics to come and watch as each finds thier own happy ending.

About AJ Pine:

AJ Pine writes stories to break readers’ hearts, but don’t worry—she’ll mend them with a happily ever after. As an English teacher and a librarian, AJ has always surrounded herself with books. All her favorites have one big commonality–romance. Naturally, the books she writes have the same. When she’s not writing, she’s of course reading. Then there’s online shopping (everything from groceries to shoes). And a tiny bit of TV where she nourishes her undying love of vampires, superheroes, and a certain high-functioning sociopath detective. You’ll also find her hanging with her family in the Chicago ‘burbs.
