Synopsis :
Where do you go to escape everything when you're one of the most famous rugby players in the world? For Liam Callaghan, that place is a remote lodge on Venezuela's Caribbean coast. Perfect, except he doesn't exactly want to be alone with his thoughts. Enter Tess Chambers, the ultimate distraction.

Still reeling from a professional disaster that's made her all but unemployable, Tess understands the desire to move through life as somebody else. So when instantly recognizable Liam uses a fake name, she runs with it and creates a temporary new identity of her own.

Their time spent together in paradise is idyllic but brief—after one passionate night, Liam wakes up to find Tess gone. Returning to London, he's shocked to learn she's taken a job with his team's new sponsor. As the Legends' captain, he'll have to not only figure out how to work with the one woman who ever left him wanting more, but also convince her that their feelings in the present mean more than any lies they've told in the past.

My Review:

Playing It Close was a fabulous sports romance story.  It was a beautiful story about being who you are as well.

Liam and Tess were amazing characters, both needing to get away from their daily lives for a little while and finding theirselves in the right place at the right time.  There they had a connection, but Tess had to leave quickly, which ended with some miscommuications and misunderstandings.

There was a LOT going on in each of their personal lives, scandal, grief, and more. But for those few days, on that one trip, they forged a bond that cannot be denied.  As they allow themselves to grow closer and work out their relationship, more things pop up to hold them back and just when you think oh man its over, they swoop right back in and show you how love works out.

It was easy enough to see how Tess and Liam could catch the wrong idea by what they thought they saw and knew about the other, but more importantly, it was nice to see how they worked thorugh it.  They pushed through all the things that were holding them back and weighing them down and found a way to put it all on the table and be together.

Playing it Close had it all, some laughs, some tense moments, heartbreaker here, swoon there.  The story pulls you in wondering if things will work out and how Tess and Liam will fare in their other roles.

Kat Latham definitely has a winner here!
